As Mental Health Awareness Week draws to a close in the UK, we have taken some time out to reflect on what we do at Soar to support our staff’s mental wellbeing.

1 in 4 people in the world will be affected by a mental or neurological disorder at one point in their life (who.int) and although we may not be able to stop mental health problems occurring, there are things that can be done to help us all on our journeys.

At Soar, we have thought a lot about how our working environment can help our team on both their good and bad days. At the beginning of this year, we started hosting monthly wellbeing days where the whole team comes together to do an activity and have some team bonding time. This can be something as simple as going for lunch or getting active outside.

We also like to encourage our team to step away from their desks every now and then. To make this happen, we have created different spaces around the office that mean team members can work in different places when they feel they need to have some time on their own, or they can head into our bar area to chat with other members of the team. There's also usually a pup or two running around too which is a good chance to take a break.

We have tried to create a social environment where any member of the team can talk to another about how they’re feeling. Our Soar wellbeing days have been a great way to help us achieve this and we will be continuing these each month while figuring out new ways to help all of our mental health.

In a busy workplace it’s important to check on your staff every now and then and to find ways of helping to relieve any stress that they are under. We are committed to doing this at Soar and as we continue to grow in 2019, it’s one of our top priorities.
